Wedged Windows

Wedged windows are ideal for producing minor angular or linear beam displacements and optical path differences.

Optical window wedges or prisms wedges are very similar except optical window wedges can be angled on both sides. The angle is ground and polished to specific angles, a wedge prism with a diameter of 25mm and a deviation angle of 2º the wedge angle is 3.52º and with a deviation angle of 4º the wedge angle is 7.40º. These surfaces can be polished to general specification and to a laser grade finish of Lambda 4.

Optical wedges are wedged windows used to steer the beam of light or laser. They are specifically designed to provide deviation between the first and second surface. Other uses provide transmission as wedged windows of the same power in series and in close contact it provides the beam steering. To achieve this the windows must be rotating independently.

Wedged prism windows material generally includes BK7 optical glass, borosilicates and fused silica. For material data see materials page.
