Glass Cutting

Precision Sawing

Glass cutting by annular precision ID diamond sawing of optical rods and blocks, slicing the material with a minimum of kerf loss leaving a fine cut surface. ID annular sawing, originally designed for the silicon wafer mass market, can slice blanks over 100mm dia less than 1mm thick. The cutting tolerance is controlled using a tracking system holding a tolerance of ± 0.01mm and surface roughness less than 50 microns.

Wafering Slicing Saws

The multi-blade wafering glass cutting process uses a gang of preset blades creating more of a grinding process through the material. A very gentle cut to the material with no stress to the glass. Wafering can cut up to 160mm dia x 25mm thick with a cutting tolerance of ± 0.05.

Micro-dicing

Precision micro dicing of larger substrates diced to small sizes generally less than 20mm x 20mm x 3mm uses a tape system process without damaging the polished substrates. Cutting optical substrates and glasses that can be diced smaller than 1mm2 and less than 0.20mm thick. A useful machine for production of micro plates, micro diced windows and micro optics. The dicing is extremely accurate, holding a cutting tolerance of less than 0.01mm automatically controlling the tolerance over thousands of cuts.

Glass Scribing

A scribe and break process by a CNC scribing machine uses a multi-cutting and single-cutting wheel cutting process controlling the size to a tolerance of ± 0.20mm or better, cutting both diameters and squares.

It has the flexibility and production speeds to produce small quantities and batch production. It is ideal for sheet and coated sheet glasses. CNC scribing is an economical cutting process for mass volume production. This process is applied to technical sheet glass materials.

Water Jet Cutting

Water jet cutting is ideal for cutting shapes and complex designs out of glass sheet s and polished optical plates. Water jet cutting achieves accurate burr-free profiles leaving a fine ground edge this is ideal for making glass rings and cutouts. There are no tooling costs, cutting to a tolerance of ± 0.20mm or better.

CNC Diamond Sawing

Diamond sawing squares, plates and rectangles from sheet and optical materials using a cutting wheel with a cutting depth of 100mm. These Z, Y and X-axis controlled machines are used for cutting of glass rods and large sheet glasses and raw block glasses. The latest machine programs that use “windows” based software cutting the glass to finished sizes with no other machining required depending on tolerances.
