Cover Glass (Cover Glasses)
Cover glass windows and plates are cover glasses made from transparent sheet glasses or fabricated from optical materials.
Cover glass applications include the field of microscopy or used as a protection-viewing window in sensitive instrumentation. They are widely used in electronic optics and components for process control and sensor equipment.
Typical applications and products for cover glasses:
Laser diodes
Opto-electronic
Image sensors
Base glass
Cover glass for ITO coatings
LCD covers
Glass panels
Instrument glasses
Display technology
Display glass
Instrument panels
Cover Glass Coatings
When being used as a viewing window, in some environments it is advisable to coat the cover glass with an anti-reflection coating to maximise the efficiency of the window to keep the reflection down to a minimum.
Chemically Toughened Cover Glasses
Chemical toughening of thin glass adds mechanical strength to the glass. The process is a chemical treatment using a alkali metal salt liquid. This involves applying compressive strength to the glass surface to increase the mechanical strength.
The transparent surface of technical sheet glass is often quite adequate and there are many glass types and thicknesses to choose from, see materials page.
When the surface needs a precise polished finish or the tolerances are too wide, the glass can be lapped and polished to a precise specification of thickness.
These processes apply to optical materials, which are not available in transparent polished sheets.
For sheet glass range see materials page. For capabilities and processes see custom page.
